FAQs
How do I care for my cutting board?
Wash by hand with warm water and non-abrasive soap after use. Dry immediately. We recommend applying mineral oil or a butcher block conditioner monthly to maintain color and extend life of your board.
What is the difference between End Grain boards and Serving boards?
Both types of boards are perfectly acceptable to use as cutting boards, however, the serving board style will show knife marks more noticeably. With an end grain your knife cuts into the fibers of the board vertically which provides a softer surface for your knife and allows the wood fibers to “self-heal”, thus extending the life of your board and your knives. Both boards use hardwoods which are less porous and therefore easier to clean and leave less room for bacteria to live.
Why does my board feel oily?
We do the initial “curing” of the board. We apply several coats of mineral oil and finish them with a coat of mineral oil/beeswax/carnauba wax. As the boards absorb the oil/wax and after washing, the oily feel and look will dissipate. Everything we use is food grade and safe to use immediately.
Can I customize a product I see on your page or get a product that is no longer available?
YES! We love working with people to create exactly the piece they are wanting for their home. We can make things a specific size or use specific species of wood, the options are endless. The nature of this business and making things by hand is that each board is unique. We can gladly replicate a board we have made before, but it will inevitably be slightly different. Send us an email on the “contact” page and we can begin the process.
What if I live close and don’t want to pay for shipping?
We offer free local pickup or delivery to most places within the Willamette Valley. We are pretty flexible and able to figure something out if you’re willing to work with us. Use discount code “IHEARTOREGON” at checkout and we will contact you to go over details.
What if I am unhappy with my purchase?
While we do our best to work with our customers and communicate effectively, there is the chance that something doesn’t turn out how you pictured. Keep in mind you are buying handmade goods and that even within one species of wood, you can get a completely different color or grain pattern. We will happily do our best to resolve any issues, but shipping costs cannot be reimbursed. We truly want people to have beautiful pieces that will be “forever pieces” in their homes.
